Assume that you have just been sentenced to prison for your very first felony– an Aggravated Robbery.
You have no prior convictions, so your criminal history score is 0.
Determine the number of months you would serve in the sentencing guidelines (in Figure 4.4 of the text), and then compare that with an indeterminate sentence of 1-10 years in prison. How many months would you serve? Look not only at the minimum and maximum time, but also on the actual time served based on what early release options are available and what would be required by you to get released early (if at all).
Discuss what a determinate/guidelines sentence with supervised mandatory release would mean vs. an indeterminate sentence with the option for discretionary parole. Which would you prefer, and why?
