There are several reasons for shortages in the hospital facilities at this time. A high workload and burnout might cause a higher rate of nursing staff turnover. This hinders the establishment of a steady and experienced healthcare workforce. Poor par nurse-to-patient ratios, stressed out/burned out bedside nurses, and low wage payments for staff nurses have caused many to begin travel assignments. When dealing with nursing staffing shortages, this leaves hospitals at risk for many deficiencies and liabilities. Stressed-out nurses can make mistakes and fail to give patients the care they need, which can have negative consequences. A shortage of nurses has greatly impacted patient outcomes and made it more difficult to combat illnesses and promote health. This has increased workloads and stress levels for nurses, which in turn lowers the standard of nursing care provided to patients, jeopardizes their safety, and raises the patient death rate (Tamata & Mohammadnezhad, 2023). A higher education system that can produce enough nursing graduates to satisfy the demands of the health care system is the first essential factor to developing a strong nursing workforce (Zhavoronkova, Custer, & Neal, 2022). Strategies include bettering working conditions, offering incentives, and providing opportunities for professional growth are a few ways that policies might address nurse retention. This can include providing funds for ongoing education or starting projects to enhance the workplace as a whole. A government may also possibly impose incentives, for example, between sponsoring nursing education programs and funding for new medical equipment or infrastructure upgrades. This will improve efficiency with the current staff. Access to healthcare services may be hampered by a shortage of nurses, particularly in underprivileged areas. For some populations, this may lead to poor or delayed care. Policymakers may encounter conflicting needs when resolving the nursing shortage, such as financial limitations and pressures from other healthcare sectors. To guarantee that patients have access to timely, high-quality, and reasonably priced healthcare services, policies must put patients’ needs and well-being first. By strengthening preventive care initiatives, encouraging openness in the delivery of healthcare, and integrating patient input into decision-making processes, the demand and strain may be lessened on inpatient facilities. Creating healthcare policies requires negotiating of conflicting demands.
