Text-in-Context Essay: The essay will be the accumulation of the knowledge you’v

Text-in-Context Essay: The essay will be the accumulation of the knowledge you’ve acquired on your topic. Here you will take a critically and ethically informed position-an academic argument. Working with claims, evidence, and discussions, you will persuade your readers that you have a legitimate and credible position. Rather than merely summarizing the experts, you will offer your readers your own “interpretive lens” that is informed by the
“experts”-i.e. your research.
Write a well-organized, thought-out, critical analysis essay with MLA bibliography. It should be 4-6 pages standard academic format-double-spaced, approximately one-inch margins, 12-point Times font, and no cover page. Aside from the essays assigned, make use of at least two other sources.
Make sure to do Peer Reviews of two other students’ essays.
Remember this essay is relatively short for a research paper, so a more focused topic will serve you better. I strongly encourage you to ask questions rather than state a position at this point. You may want to begin by creating a thesis question-something you plan on investigating. Begin with some preliminary investigation by looking at least two sources (I recommend more than two). You must get approval of your topic before the final proposal is due and you move on to drafting the essay. [4-6 pages]
Annotated Bibliography: The annotated bibliography includes short summaries of the sources you may possibly use, and it allows you to organize and to analyze your various sources. As I stated in class, you won’t necessarily use all the sources you have listed on your annotated bibliography. The bibliography reflects the experts from which you have chosen to draw. It also reflects the quality of your research, so choose your experts wisely. [4-6 sources total

Introduction:
Write an interesting hook, which must be a fact, statistic, or quote.
Transition to your thesis.
The thesis should formally state your subject (the short story you are focusing on) and your opinion (the analysis you have chosen to apply to the story.
Body:
Statement of fact can be a summary of the story or an explanation of a theory. Keep in mind you can have more than one statement of fact paragraph. The minimum requirement for this essay is that you have one. Statement of fact often follows the introduction. Finally, the summary you wrote for the summary assignment can be used in this essay.
Confirmation usually follows statement of fact. You should have a minimum of three reasons why your thesis is true. However, there’s no such thing as a maximum. Use evidence from your research and the story to prove your thesis true. You should have 3-5 library sources in your essay.
Refutation usually follows confirmation. The minimum requirement is that you have one refutation paragraph. Refutation can be an opposing view or an alternative view. Be sure to use evidence to refute others’ ideas. While some of the interpretations might have a distinct opposing view, others may not. For example, the media impact on Irene may have an opposing view to refute while social masks may have an alternative view. If you are arguing about social masks in your essay, you might be able to argue against another interpretation in your refutation, such as privacy issues.
Conclusion:
Restate your thesis and provide closure by either making recommendations or warning of consequences or some combination of these.

Please read to the end of these instructions.Persuasive Essay instructions:Write a persuasive essay on any issue in which you are personally interested. (Please see “off limits” topics/issues listed below.) Make sure you identify the target audience for your persuasive text.
Follow the step by step process that begins with “Selecting a Topic” on page 211, then work your way through the steps for planning, drafting, revising, and finishing that continue through page 217.
Use research if you need to find evidence to support your persuasive claim, but you can informally cite this research. For example, you can simply write “According to Juan Gonzalez’s research” at the beginning of a sentence that would include Gonzalez’s claim. You will learn to do this more correctly and carefully in the next few weeks, but if you know how to cite sources, give it a try. You won’t lose points for attempting it and doing it incorrectly this time around.
If you want to speak with me about your paper at any time, simply email me and we will set up an online, phone, or in-person session to talk about it.

Homeschooling
Social media and issues related to it
Vaccinating children against communicable viruses
Bullying
School uniforms or dress codes
Riding roller coasters
