1.Evidence: The study found that detailed feedback from the instructor was a preferred way to promote the student’s skill development and improve writing performance on future assignments (Gredler, 2018). Detailed feedback was more effective than general feedback in enhancing writing performance (Gredler, 2018). One participant stated “Feedback is how students learn and grow in their writing and understanding of information. I cannot become a better writer and learn if I do not receive feedback that helps me do both things (Gredler, 2018)”.
While analyzing the data, I believe most was from individual experiences between the instructor and students. The students noted that by receiving the feedback from the instructor with specific details on what needs to be corrected or changed, they will able to learn how to make the corrections needed. By receiving this information they would be more resistant in making mistakes, have developed their writing skills, therefore improving their performance.
2.Undergraduate and graduate-level students prefer certain types of feedback rather than others. Depending on the instructor’s feedback, learning could be improved if the tone and content come off as supportive to students (Gredler, 2018). Researchers showed that postsecondary students prefer clear, concise, suggestive, non-directive comments with a balance between positive and negative comments (Gredler, 2018).
Analyzing evidence involves carefully examining and interpreting the information presented in a text. It requires a critical thinking approach to identify the key points, arguments, and claims made in the evidence. In this case, the evidence presented discusses how different types of feedback can improve or hinder student learning. Analyzing the evidence involves understanding the research cited and identifying the essential findings and implications of the research. It is crucial to consider the evidence’s context and purpose and evaluate the source’s quality and reliability. Analyzing evidence requires a thoughtful and systematic approach to understanding and interpreting information.
