Identify a potential hotspot within your jurisdiction and propose a plan to address the issue. (The hotspot is Colerain Ave between Banning Rd and Galbraith Rd in Cincinnati, OH. my agency is the Colerain Township Police Department.)
The expectation for this assignment is for some sort of data analytics be presented to support the problem area identified. This can include:
Crash data and/or crime data if using a DDACTS strategy
If you don’t have access to this information, you can use some of the traffic formula’s we discussed in class to come up with some figures. (We have had 97 pedestrians struck by motor vehicles in this area so far this year. We are currently working with Hamilton County and State of Ohio officials to address this situation.)
Then prepare a written plan with goals and objectives, directing officers under your command to employ whatever strategies you come up with. This should include a time frame and plan to assess and evaluate how well the strategies are working.
This is not intended to be a “staff study,” but an exercise to address a problem area using some concepts and principles discussed in the material, such as data-driven approaches, the 4 priorities, traffic analysis, STEER formula, etc.
The project should be laid out in the following format:
Problem Area (hotspot) Identification
Discussion and Data Analytics of the Problem Area
Goals and Objectives & Strategies
Plan for Evaluation and Assessment
