The book is called This is how you lose her by Junot Diaz. The first two paragraphs will be based on ONE of the first three stories of the book, “The Sun, the Moon, the Stars,” “Nilda,” or “Alma.” WRITE ABOUT ONE STORY ONLY. Ensure that you do the following:
• CHOOSE ONE quote from the story that you place at the top of your response. Remember to choose a quote that you feel is significant or important to the story. CITE THIS QUOTE IN PROPER MLA FORMAT.
• Two paragraphs of interpretation/analysis in which you discuss the significance of the quote you chose in relation to the events occurring in the story. Refer to terms from the Prezi presentation such as symbol, metaphor, characterization, irony in your interpretation. HINT: You may even want to discuss the title of one of the stories. For example, what is the significance of the sun, the moon and the stars?
• You must refer to some theory, idea or comment from Diaz’s Harvard Lecture (Week 1) in this response. For example, does Yunior or Rafa exhibit Caribbean heteronormative masculinity like Diaz mentions? Is Nilda a totem and if so, for what? (Diaz also talks about this in his lecture)
