Make sure that you address the following points:
Explain why, in the absence of mechanisms to prevent it, fisheries are prone to being over-fished.
Explain how fisheries were managed in New Zealand prior to the arrival of European settlers. Connect your answer to Ostrom’s work that discusses the conditions for an effective management for such a resource.
What was the impact of the arrival of Europeans on fisheries and the management of NZ fisheries? (Hint: Discuss how and why the conditions that you identified broke down after the Europeans arrived.)
