In this assignment, you will plan the curriculum for a program targeting healthcare-associated infections (HAI).
Scenario: Over the past several months, there have been multiple HAI breakouts in your organization. The frequency of these outbreaks and the fact that they have occurred throughout the organization and were limited to small, isolated groups has made leadership very concerned. As a result, they have put you in charge of developing an educational program that will provide nurses and other nursing-associated employees (e.g., CNAs) with a comprehensive education on HAIs. You must determine what the curriculum of this program will look like (content to be taught, program learning objectives, number of courses within the program, how the content will be taught, the resources and materials to be used in the program, assessments, etc.) The only constraints you have is that each course or module within the program should be 15–30 minutes in length, and the number of modules or courses should not exceed 5. This is so those who are required to take the courses will not have difficulty finding time within their schedules to attend the course or complete the modules.
Research appropriate content for this program. If there are competencies that are tied to this subject, the requirements for meeting the competencies should be built into the program. Use Healthy People 2020 as a starting point for determining what material should be covered and what outcomes you want to have. To help you through this process, use the Curriculum Development Process Template. Most curriculum follows the same framework for its basic design. While there may be some differences among the various curriculum models, most of the differences are minor. Complete the Curriculum Development Process Template by following the instructions contained within it. Use grading rubric and ensure all grading criteria are met.
