Project Reporting Log and Journal Entries:
After each experience at your community site, record your hours on the Project Reporting Log and Journal Entries Download Project Reporting Log and Journal Entriesform and create a journal entry on this same form. Continue this process until you have completed all 22.5 hours.
The AFE Community Experience journal assignments are an opportunity to reflect on your learning. Reflection-on-action is a component of critical thinking as described by Tanner’s Model of Clinical Judgment. “Reflection-on-action is critical for development of knowledge and improvement in reasoning. It is how learning from practice is incorporated into personal experience for consideration in future patient care situations” (Giddens, 2021, p. 375).
In these journal assignments, you will think back and reflect on the experiences you had at the AFE Community Experience. Each journal entry should be written within 24 hours of the completion of community experience hours.
This Experiential Learning requirement, including journal submissions, must be completed by the end of week 10.
Instructions for Journal Entries:
Within 2-3 paragraphs, write a personal reflection about today’s AFE Community Experience.
Discuss the following:
Professional Competence
Discuss what went well today. Describe interpersonal interactions you witnessed or in which you participated.
Challenging Situations
Describe any challenges or difficult situations you observed or were directly involved with today. Include the reason(s) for the challenge and the potential underlying cause(s). If you are faced with a similar challenge in the future, how will you react/act differently?
Personal and Professional Growth and Development
Discuss how you experienced the ‘art of nursing’ today. How will this influence your future professional practice?
