Once you complete your Literary Analysis Sheets, you will use that information to prepare your compare/contrast essay. You will select three literary elements to compare and contrast between the two stories by your author. One of these must be character (protagonist/antagonist).
The paper must be 4-5 pages minimum (not including title and references pages), typed, double-spaced, in Times New Roman 12-point font or similar, and include separate title and references pages.
Sources:
Include at least one direct or paraphrased quotation from each story for each literary element (the total will be at least three per story)
Include at least two outside sources from Proquest, Ebsco, or other credible web sources. If in doubt that your source is credible, check with me
All sources must include both in-text and reference citations in APA style
Structure – You’ll be using a point-by-point organization style. An example outline is shown below.
Paragraph 1: Introduction to the author and the two stories being discussed. End with a three-part thesis.
Paragraph 2: Thesis point 1 for Story 1 and Story 2.
Topic Sentence
Story 1/thesis point 1
Story 2/thesis point 1
Paragraph 3: Identify similarities and differences in how the author uses this literary element in the two stories.
Paragraph 4: Thesis point 2 for Story 1 and Story 2.
Topic Sentence
Story 1/thesis point 2
Story 2/thesis point 2
Paragraph 5: Identify similarities and differences in how the author uses this literary element in the two stories.
Paragraph 6: Thesis point 3 for Story 1 and Story 2.
Topic Sentence
Story 1/thesis point 3
Story 2/thesis point 3
Paragraph 7: Identify similarities and differences in how the author uses this literary element in the two stories.
Paragraph 8: The Conclusion should rephrase your three-part thesis and summarize your ideas about how the author uses the three elements and how these elements help to make the author’s work successful. Use a quotation from your research to strengthen your conclusion.
The References should list the two stories on a separate page in APA style as well as all other sources you use. Remember to cite each one both on the References page AND in the body of your essay.
***Remember, this paper cannot simply retell the story or tell WHAT the three literary elements are. You must analyze WHY these elements are important. What do they accomplish in the story? What does the author use the literary elements to reveal? Be sure to use the appropriate literary analysis terminology when discussing the literary elements.
Sample thesis statement:
In “The Story of an Hour” and “The Storm,” Kate Chopin uses settings, characters, and conflicts to reveal the depth of gender bias in her time and the effects society’s bias had on women. NOTE: My attached story is the pdf, please incorporate with other from the internet.
