I interned at Donovan CPAs in Indiana, where clients bring in their source docum

I interned at Donovan CPAs in Indiana, where clients bring in their source documents for tax return processing. The challenge is that a lot of time is spent scanning and organizing these documents rather than focusing on preparing, reviewing, and managing the returns. I want to explore ways to streamline this process. Specifically, I’m looking into more efficient scanning and organizing tools. Currently, Donovan CPAs uses CCH software, Fujitsu and Canon scanners, and Adobe for document organization. They also provide clients with an organizer to help streamline the process, though it’s often overlooked by the clients. I would appreciate any advice or suggestions on how to make this process more efficient.

Details
The project/paper would have direct relevance to the internship assignment and would be of direct use by the internship employer. At a minimum the project/paper would deal with a topic of interest to the student but related to experiences from the internship. The project/paper may be ‘research’ or ‘experiential’ oriented (or a combination thereof). It should be problem solving and ‘action’ oriented, resulting in specific alternatives and recommendations – that are framed by appropriate background and issue-statements and supported with conclusions based on logic and well-founded research and/or interviews.
The typical project/paper should be the equivalent of at least 8 to 10 pages in length. The page count includes the executive summary, but the cover page, citations and relevant attachments are not. Papers that use and refer to significant attachments may be shorter, and must be approved by professor in advance of submission. A business ‘block’ font is preferable with single space text, double space between paragraphs and the appropriate use of headings, bullets, tables and graphics. The project/paper is considered and treated as CONFIDENTIAL. However, company confidential information may be disguised or redacted if needed.
The project/paper will be graded on the following criteria:
Topic relevance to Internship Assignment. Could be or was given to Internship company.
Project/Paper Research and Resources – Citations and/or Interviews, Appendix and /or Footnotes.
Format and Style – Spelling, Grammar, Formatting, Overall Professionalism and Timeliness
Content and Communication – Executive Summary, Introduction/Background, Relevant Facts and Support, Conclusions, Recommendations, Properly Supported, Appropriate Length.
Attachments may/should include relevant project deliverables to the company.
More details
Some clarification on the requirements: the paper length should be 8-10 pages. The page count includes the executive summary only. The cover page, citation page and exhibits are not included in this number. Paper should have in-text citations: I prefer that students use the Chicago Manual style (noted in document with either superscript numbers or name of author and year published in parentheses, then the citations listed on separate page behind report – no citations at the bottom of each of the pages.) If you do not, that is fine, just be consistent throughout.
Formatting should include headings, bullets, tables if appropriate. Normal margins, acceptable business font style, font size between 11-12 pt, single space text, double space between paragraphs.
