Choose a popular TV show or movie (documentaries are allowed, but not required) that you have watched and are familiar with. Conduct a critical analysis of the cultural content portrayed in the show or movie, using concepts and theories learned in the class. Some questions to consider:
How are concepts of race, ethnicity, nationalism, class, gender, the global economy and neoliberalism, social reproduction, or other cultural constructs portrayed in the show or movie?
What messages or values are being communicated about culture or society, and how are they being conveyed?
What are the underlying assumptions or biases of the show or movie, and how do they reflect broader cultural beliefs or attitudes that we’ve discussed in class?
Your paper or presentation should include:
A clear thesis statement that presents your argument and sets the tone for the rest of the paper
A summary of the TV show or movie and its cultural context
An analysis of the cultural content portrayed in the show or movie, using concepts and theories learned in the class citing at least two readings.
Specific examples and evidence from the show or movie to support your argument
A conclusion that summarizes your main points and presents a final reflection on the significance of your analysis
