Case Assignment
Academic Integrity
Trident values academic integrity, and the Module 1 Case is devoted to this topic. It is important that we discuss this issue early in our course. To earn your degree, you will be required to write research papers and complete worksheets, quizzes, and tests. Choosing to do your best work with pride and ownership is important as you continue your academic journey. Think about the meaning of Academic Integrity and view how Trident defines and values integrity in academia in the University Catalog – Policy Handbook, which is available online at https://www.trident.edu/catalog/.
Chapter 7 (Box 7.2) in Thriving at Trident will help you better understand what plagiarism is and how it is a violation of academic integrity. In this chapter, you will also acquire strategies to locate and evaluate information, construct papers and reports, and use writing as a tool to learn deeply and think critically. This will help you develop as a scholar.
In addition to Chapter 7 (Box 7.2), the YouTube video Plagiarism: How to avoid it is recommended to help you complete the assignment below.
Trident provides students with Turnitin (TII), an online support tool that helps ensure that academic work is of the highest integrity. To best equip yourself on how to use this tool, review the instructions under Resources for Student Success located below.
Assignment Expectations
After review of all materials in this assignment, answer the questions from “7.5 Is It or Is It Not Plagiarism?” within the Chapter 7 Exercises on page 163 of Thriving at Trident for CASE 1-4.
Using a Word document, present the answers in complete sentences and paragraph form. There should be 4 or 5 sentences provided for each question that requires explanation. Be sure to proofread, as scholarly writing is important.
When you have finished, please be sure to include your name, date, and course name on the assignment. Next, title the saved file with your name (Example: Module 1 Case Helen Smith). Save and upload the document to the Case 1 Dropbox.
Review the grading rubric to ensure all requirements are met. The rubric can be found on the assignment’s Dropbox page in the bottom right-hand corner under Activity Details.
Resources for Student Success
Microsoft Office
Microsoft Office is required for assignments at Trident University. A free download of Office 365 is available to you as a student. Follow the instructions on the Student Support Resources guide.
Tutor.com
You will see a Free Tutoring link in the navigation bar of your course. (If you do not see it, it may be under the “More” menu.)
Turnitin (TII) and the Practice Dropbox
Turnitin is linked directly to the assignment’s Dropbox in this course. Once you submit an assignment to the Dropbox, Turnitin automatically generates a value called the Similarity Score, indicating how much matching text (text matching sources or other written papers) is present in your essay. You can click on the colored square to see the Similarity Report, which shows the sources that correspond to text within the paper.
Courses contain a Practice Dropbox that is also linked to TII. Before submitting the assignment to the module Case or SLP dropbox, the Practice Dropbox may be used to view the assignment’s similarity score.
For more information on Turnitin, access the Turnitin Guide under the My Resources tab on the Trident Portal page or by clicking on the following link https://mytlc.trident.edu/files/Turnitin-Guide.pdf.
