Scenario #1: Josie is a 49-year-old woman with a diagnosis of severe intellectual disability. She has limited language skills, but is capable of an occasional, one-word vocal response. Her target behavior is self-injurious behavior in the form of slapping the sides of her face with both hands using a light amount of force. At most, there is a slight redness following the slapping behavior. You conducted a functional assessment and found that the function of self-injurious behavior was attention from staff in her group home. When she slaps her face, staff usually come over to her, console her, and say things like, “Josie, why are your hurting yourself? Please don’t hurt yourself.” The staff member then usually sits with her for a few minutes and talks with her.
Scenario #2: Andrew is a 12-year-old boy with a diagnosis of severe intellectual disability. He has limited language skills and does not use vocal responses to communicate. He is capable of using picture cards to communicate. He already has an extensive repertoire of using a picture exchange system to request preferred items. His target behavior is property destruction defined as using his arms to push all items off the table and onto the floor, ripping worksheets in half, and snapping pencils in half. You conducted a functional assessment and found the function of property destruction was escape from demands. When he engages in property destruction, his teacher removes the demand and moves on to another student. If Andrew rips up a worksheet, it is not replaced with another and he is not required to complete the task. Andrew is not required to pick up items pushed to the floor. His teacher’s response has been to remove any request and ignore Andrew when he engages in property destruction.

They aspire to graduate in exercise science and go on to earn a degree in occupational therapy, but failed their first two anatomy and physiology exams. Scenario
Alita is a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) working for a large company that contracts with multiple school districts to provide behavior analytic services for their students. Prior to leaving the office to work with one of her young clients, the manager assigned her another student at the same school. Alita was directed to conduct a functional behavior assessment (FBA) and design a function-based behavior intervention plan (BIP) for the new client. Alita was happy to schedule the FBA as soon as possible but stated that she would first meet with the parents and explain the process and obtain informed consent to begin. Her manager told her that it was unnecessary since the school district is paying her for her services, and the principal requested behavior services.

TEAM PROJECT GUIDELINES In PSYC 2070, you will form teams of 3–4 members within your seminar sections. In these groups, you will complete a group project that has two components. This group project will involve applying research literature to help solve a case problem related to our class topics. Description of the Project: You are working in a team of consultants specializing in organizational behaviour and industrial-organizational psychology. Your client has hired you to help them understand the core problems in their workplace and require your expertise. To help your client, your team should draw from peer-reviewed research articles (i.e., theories, models, empirical studies). Using the knowledge gained from the research articles you have read; you will then make recommendations to your client on how to solve the case problem.
This team project is composed of two parts:
Part 1 involves a written proposal where you collaboratively pitch your analysis of the case problem to your client.

#2: Case Selection and Identification of Organizational Problem Review cases from the file “PSYC_2070_Team_Project_Cases”. As a group, decide your top preferences. In seminar, you will get to choose your preferred case. Note: Maximum 2 groups to a case. Write a brief (i.e., up to 0.25 pages max) summary that describes your case and the list of main problems that you will be addressing.
#2: Evidence Gathering for Consultant’s Review Conduct a literature search for peer-reviewed research articles to learn about your list of main issues. PSYC 2070 (Fall, 2024) -3- We recommend using Google Scholar, and sematic scholar . * Note that you are not allowed to cite the textbook for this project, but it will NOT count towards the required number of sources. And use peer reviewed journal and articles which are latest from 2020 till present Identify one to three theories from the recommended theories that can serve as a framework for your presentation. Locate and describe empirical research studies that support your chosen theory/theories. Explicitly describe how these studies can help explain the case problem. In approximately 2.5 pages, use your selected theories and empirical studies to demonstrate how they can explain the main issues faced by the organization.
#3: Develop Consultant’s Recommendations In approximately one page, show your client what they can do address each main issue you identified. Hint: Look in the ‘Practical Recommendations’ or ‘Implications’ sections of your sources for ideas.
#4: Written Proposal Deliverable Create a Microsoft Word document (i.e., no Pages, Google Docs, etc.) that showcases your work on the above milestones. PSYC 2070 (Fall, 2024) -4- One of your project leaders should submit your proposal to the CourseLink Dropbox folder.
Additional Notes and Tips: • We recommend aiming for 10 appropriate and high-quality sources in total. You are welcome to have more than 10 sources though and will not be penalized. Make sure you write down the reference information for each source that you use on a References slide. You should be following APA Style for all assignments in this course. • For each main issue that you identified, come up with one practical recommendation that your client can implement based on the theories/models/studies that you used. • If you have different team members working on separate sections of the proposal, have each other edit and revise everything to ensure it ‘reads as one voice.’ • The client proposal should be four pages maximum. o The title page and references do not count towards this page limit.
RUBRIC FOR CLIENT PROPOSAL • The team presentation is worth 15% of your final grade in PSYC 2070. • Keep in mind that your client is very busy and only has time to review 4 pages!
