Each student will create a bibliotherapy intervention/ curriculum (for a parent and a teacher) to increase the use of empathic socially practical programs in the child’s school and home. The sample curriculum should be based on a book from children’s literature (Prek-8th grade), and the intervention created should be related to the book theme and should be reflected in the activities embedded in the curriculum. This created curriculum intervention should include things relevant for individuals/or groups, families/ parents, and teachers. Please consider developmental, cognitive, and emotional factors when selecting the activity/ directive. Also remember that you want to see if your intervention is working so also include a way to monitor client progress (data collection practices and tools) for the parent and the teacher when they implement your social-emotional literacy intervention. The curriculum should be written in a way that it can be completed by a teacher in the context of a school day and by the parent in the home.
Requirements for this assignment include:
A typed teacher Curriculum and a typed Parent Curriculum (both on the same book) use “Elmer the Elephant” book for both teacher and parent
A typed descriiption of the book being used (children’s literature), a youtube clip of the book being read, a picture of the book cover, teacher/ parent tips on reading the story, classroom play-based activities that can be done daily to enhance the book theme and message (Art activity, movement activity, circle time activity), and similarly for the parent curriculum activities and games that can be done in the home to enhance learning about the books theme, and intervention and rationale for application (format for teacher and parent intervention descriiption will be provided a sample in CANVAS)
Materials needed to complete the activity in class and home (and handouts that can accompany the curriculum if needed)
– 2 pages for the teacher curriculum
– 2 pages for the parent curriculum
