For this assignment, I ask that you construct an essay about the use of rhetoric in a short text written by a person in position of power. Based upon the discussions and the material we have read and looked at (so far), shape a 4-7 page essay that analyses how an author is getting her argument(s) across. Focus on these questions: What is the author trying to accomplish with the message? Why a tweet, if it’s a tweet? Who is the main audience? Are there other audiences? Why does she make the decisions she makes? Do they work? How is language used and how is meaning negotiated? Pay close attention to the idea that these arguments do not exist “in a vacuum,” as we discussed in class. Finally, your essay should pivot to something you want to argue about the tweet and its cultural or historical significance. In other words, the tweet is important because . . . Come up with something unexpected, bold, and confident. A good place to work towards is why is this person attracted to the conspiracy?
