Case Study: Precedent Study or Topic Research Study
Document your research and create a written report based on outline given. These interior design case studies used to identify conceptual ideas and requirements needed to support design intent of projects or topics similar to your own. Projects must relate to design problems you have identified in your research thus far and should be a prototype of the intended project type or some critical element you are studying with your project (For example if you want to design a school the precedent study should be a similar type of school). Precedents should be studied for quantitative information such as square footage and technical information; and qualitative aspects such as user experience and aesthetics. Use notes, provided, and examples to help guide the writing process.
•Precedent Case Study must include a floor plan with thoughtful analysis (It can be from a publications or hand sketched by you) Analyze what is important about the floor plan and space planning.
•Topic Research Case Study shall include factual information which will make you an expert in the selected area of interest.
•Research must come from multiple sources and should include non-internet sources.
•Work will be evaluated on relevance to your project and completeness of analysis.
•Do not just regurgitate information already presented in other sources. Instead analyze the project as it pertains to your own ideas and work. Put it in the context of your own thesis and develop new ideas and conclusions. How have the case studies informed your decision and concept statement/project goals.
•This is a paper written by you and cited appropriately. Do not plagiarize content from websites. This is easily identifiable and will result in disciplinary action.
