In this assignment, you will begin to apply what you already know about the genres within the visual and performing arts. You’ll have a chance to identify how these disciplines exist in your communities and how you perceive the value of the arts. You will also begin to identify connections between the visual and performing arts and your life as a well-rounded citizen with diverse perspectives.
This assignment is formative, which means after you complete it, your faculty member will review your work and provide you feedback that you can incorporate into your upcoming work.
Select one of the following options to complete this assignment.
Option A: Community Guide Presentation
Look ahead at the different types of art covered in this course: visual arts, music, dance, film, and theater. Think about where you can find and experience these types of art in your local community or the community in which you were raised.
Create a 10- to 12-slide presentation that serves as a community guide for the arts in your community in which you:
Describe 3 or 4 types of art covered in this course and where they can be experienced in your community.
Describe your personal experience of these types of art.
Explain the purpose these types of art serve for the individual and the community in general.

Option B: School Tour Presentation
Choose a school in your area and research its arts program. This can be a school where you currently work, the school your child attends, the high school where you graduated, or a nearby school you are familiar with. Imagine you are a teacher (not in the arts), and your principal has asked you to give a tour of your school to prospective parents and students. Part of the tour outlines the visual and performing arts offerings in your school.
Create a 10- to 12-slide arts presentation for parents and students in which you:
List all visual and performing arts courses and extracurricular activities the school offers.
Briefly describe how each course or extracurricular activity is an example of the visual or performing arts.
Explain why your school offers these courses, including the positive benefit to students of studying the arts at your school.
