Module 8 Lesson 2: Discussion – Legal Issues Involving the Health Record
Purpose
The purpose of this discussion forum is to create a collaborative environment in which you can improve your understanding legal issues involving the health record, and critical thinking skills through the constructive sharing of ideas and opinions with your classmates.
Directions
Write a short paragraph of no more than 150 words that answers the question presented.
Patients own their health data. Therefore, when those data are stored in an electronic health record (EHR), patients have a legal right to know the name of each person who has accessed their records. Do you agree or disagree with these two statements?
Give at least three reasons to support your position. You must cite at least one reputable reference in your initial post. Your response to your peers must address specific points they raised in their posts.
Follow these guidelines when as you engage in this discussion:
Present your thoughts in a clear, concise and well-organized manner
Keep your writing free of grammatical, mechanical, and formatting errors. No shorthand “texting” language!
Use your own words (do not copy text directly from a website, text, or other reference materials).
Appropriately cite all sources used. Use APA citation format.
Post your answers to the Discussion Board.
Click on the Reply button at the bottom of this page.
In the Message box, type your answer to the questions then click Post Reply.
NOTE: You will not be able to see your classmates’ posts until you have made your initial post. You may subscribe to the forum so that you will receive notification when there are new postings to read.
Respond to at least two other classmates using the following guidelines:
Explain whether you agree or disagree with your classmate’s answer; and say why. Cryptic responses like “I agree”, “Good job”, “Well done”, will not receive credit as such responses do not explain why you agree or disagree.
Your response post must be at least two sentences long; but no more that five sentences.
Follow the same guidelines you used (see above) when making your initial post.
Please exhibit the utmost respect when responding to your classmates’ posts.
