Now that you have participated in some research and analyzed it to understand the components of a good methodology, let’s discuss your research ideas.Dissertation research is more complex than a simple hypothesis as it involves many steps in answering your overarching research question.  For this discussion, let’s begin thinking about the topic for your dissertation. The goal for this discussion is to be able to briefly share your idea and start to formulate/explore a plan. Remember that this is only a discussion and you are only exploring ideas here.  Before you make a final decision you will need to conduct a thorough literature review to make sure your topic is unique. It is OK if you do not yet have a specific idea. This is the time to try out something and explore its appeal to you. Please watch this video on How to Choose a Topic. This lecture is a review lecture you may have seen before. Then, share with the class your (possible) area of interest and the GAP in the existing literature you intend to address in 2-3 sentences (with citations).  Write an overarching research question and main hypothesis (alternative and null).  Identify the variables noted in your hypothesis.  Present a brief description of the methodology you imagine would be best to test your hypothesis.  Follow the template below.
