Identify the title of the Social Justice Brief you selected.
The title of the selection is Social Work’s Role in Responding to Intimate Partner Violence. Social workers are essential because they can support legislation changes and can help implement public policies to address Domestic violence (NASW, n/d). The social justice brief
Explain why you chose the Social Justice Brief.
The chosen selection increased awareness of the importance of social workers, complexities, a preventable severe public health problem, and the many forms of abuse. Usually, the perpetrators are in close relations (NASW, n/d). The brief brought back memories of my experiences and depicted great information, adding protective factors essential for families or individuals. As a person who knows all too well what the long-term effects are, I also see the importance of promoting resilience within yourself and the essentials for seeking treatment strategies, which is why I am in the field of study.
Describe how you might advocate for change based on the analysis in the brief.
To advocate for change locally, one would need the essential education and knowledge of the populations they want to assist, whether from cultural diversity, children or adults, and what interventions and resources are available in their surrounding areas. Social workers have moral obligations to clients to advocate to assist with psychological stressors resulting from Intimate Partner Violence (Wilson & Webb, n/d). They can increase awareness with physicians and mental health professionals (Wilson & Webb, n/d). Individuals often hesitate to disclose any negative adverse issues at home or in the environment. Spreading the word so individuals know there are alternatives to escape their situations and the importance to promote prevention strategies and changes to policies. Also, the analysis depicts the need for additional policies and provisions in addition to strengths-based interventions and advocacy to spread the word locally or nationally by joining a local advocate group or national coalition group to promote increased funding and available shelters.

Identify the title of the Social Justice Brief you selected.
The title of the Social Justice Brief I chose is Opiates in Our Backyard: Implications for Drug Policy. This social justice brief provides demographic data on the increases of heroin use by women and males of every population during 2002-2013 (Wilson & Dorn, n.d.).
Explain why you chose the Social Justice Brief.
I chose this social justice brief because the description of social work states, “The primary mission of the social work profession is to enhance human well-being and help meet the basic human needs of all people, with particular attention to the needs and empowerment of people who are vulnerable, oppressed, and living in poverty” (National Association of Social Workers, 2021) and this social justice brief details the severity for the needs of service as well as reveal dedicated teamwork and comprehensive-integrated care approaches have proven to be successful with transforming females suffering with a substance abuse disorder to living clean and sober lives, and becoming productive minded citizens (Wilson & Dorn, n.d.).
Describe how you might advocate for change based on the analysis in the brief.
I would begin by referencing the positive example that a program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston has successfully engaged opiate using patients with support teams which consisted of addiction physicians, a psychiatrist, and a social worker (Wilson & Dorn, n.d.). Utilizing a comprehensive-integrated care approach, patients are triaged to other community groups and helping agencies that can help reduce the cost of care while generating positive treatment outcomes for clients (Wilson & Dorn, n.d.). My hook would be to describe that both men and women are experiencing higher levels of substance abuse on a yearly average, however, men have more readily accessible long-term drug treatment facilities in our area than women which is unfair and denying females who are wholeheartedly seeking treatment. I would also explain the importance of collaborating a professionally integrated public workforce that includes social workers to monitor a program for single homeless females suffering with substance use disorder is maintaining a high level of care for each client. Also, members of this population will not just be delivered from homeless, but lives are being saved from possible drug overdose and weather-related deaths as well.
