The first part of this project is a DRAFT document using the Word application. Your group will, no doubt, gather quite a bit of information based on the requirements set and this application will help your group showcase your selections. Be sure to use the Editor to check for spelling and grammar errors. The group will want to put your best foot forward to your supervisor.
Once all the data is collected, select three of the best products you recommend within a given budget to showcase; ensure the data for the other nine systems are included. Based on the Business Problem Scenario outlined, use Word to complete the following tasks:
Create a cover page with the following:
Widgets United
Recommendation – System Updates
Course name and section number (i.e. BCIS1305 – Spring24)
Include the first and last name
Be sure to submit a nicely formatted easy-to-understand document to show your supervisor what the group considered, and how the various systems compare. All pages are portrait orientation, except the systems table it is landscape.
Create a table to present at least 12 systems as outlined on a landscape orientation page. Include the cost per system and total cost. Ensure your recommended systems stand out from the rest.
Present and write the collected data in an easy-to-understand way (e.g. Dell 1020 with 8 GB RAM above a Dell 1020 with 12 GB RAM). Notice the progression of size in RAM.
In the body of the document, thoroughly explain the groups recommendations and why. Use the features in Word for design, images, and ensure there are no spelling errors.
Use a Draft watermark to show that this is the draft document
Use three or more concepts:
Paragraph breaks, line breaks, spaces, and non-breaking spaces
Apply different fonts, font sizes, and attributes, and custom document properties
Customize margins, insert page numbers, headers, and footers
Use tables to present and arrange information (landscape orientation)
Modify a table by changing the column and row size, aligning text, using the Table Properties dialog box
Enhance the appearance and function of a table by applying borders and shading, using table styles
Reference page citing all sources
Grading will include clarity of your recommendation and implementation of lessons learned using Word. When complete, save and name your document with your last name and “_recommendation”. ([Name]_recommendation.docx). Upload here in Bb when done.
Research and Analyze a Business Problem (Bb Item)
The objective and final result of creating separate projects is to demonstrate your ability to format information (data) you have gathered for your supervisor(s) to make a business decision. You will conduct internet research using specific system requirements and business guidelines for this business decision based on the scenario and project requirements below.
BUSINESS RULE: In general, most businesses will require three proposals for consideration before decisioning when making purchases. Keep this in mind while you research.
Scenario: You hold an intern position at the local branch office of Widgets United. The company needs new computers for their twenty (20) employees and all employees will use the same type of system. Their current computers (OptiPlex 620) are 16 years old and cannot support Windows 10. The budget has been set at $25,000.00 for the new computers. Refurbished systems are not an option. Your supervisor has tasked you with researching new systems and calculating the cost.
Note: there is no need to purchase new monitors or other peripherals, so those need not be replaced.
Project Requirements:
Research at least 12 viable options under the $25,000 limit with the following minimum guidelines and system requirements:
PC desktops only
Intel i5, i7 or AMD Ryzen or better
8 GB RAM minimum
500 GB storage minimum
Tower workstations with video output for DVI and/or HDMI connections
Windows 10 Pro 64bit or Windows 11 Pro
3-year warranty
