The way we communicate is typically impacted by who we are communicating with, our audience. Effective persuasion techniques in one culture may not work in another culture. For this discussion post, do a web search on “intercultural communication” and addressing (communicating with) a global audience.
1. Research a topic that is important for technical (professional) communication. Please do not use one of the first few articles or examples that comes up in a Google search.
2. Then in 300 words or more, write a summary (present the research in your own words) of your findings, and discuss some of the steps a writer can take to address the needs of global and international audiences.
Include why persuasive techniques are effective in one culture and not effective in another.
Include why considering your audience and their background, experiences, etc…is so important.
Use research to support what you are saying.
Cite the research as required in this course with an attributive tag AND an end citation AND a closing remark which connects your research to what you are saying.
For example, In the article, “Addressing a Global Audience, Samira Khan, a sociologist which specializes in connecting with others, explains that……. (31). Khan’s research supports the idea that understanding your audience provides a more productive meeting, eliminating useless time spent guessing what your audience values.
