In the assigned chapters for this week in the Peak and Madensen-Herold (2021) textbook, you will learn about criminal justice models, crime theories, and criminal justice policy. Chapter 1 of the textbook provides an important introduction to the criminal justice system in the United States and furnishes context for studying criminal justice. In Chapter 3, you will study theories focusing on criminality and why people commit crimes. As you examine the multiple theories examined in the text, discern which factors make the most sense to explain the root causes of crime and to ultimately reduce recidivism.
