1. Read the chapter introduction for context and an overview of the subject.
2. Read and summarize the essay by either Hall or Breen in 2-3 typed, double-spaced pages,
using in-text citations outlined in the syllabus.
3. Select a matching primary document, read and briefly summarize it, and explain how it
connects directly to the essay by using the essay author’s analytical framework.
4. Write discussion posts using sources and evidence, with clear sentences demonstrating
knowledge of the subject and context. Note: the discussion posts are optional for any
given week, but each student must have a total of six posts for the semester
