Using Older Format FIRM, FBFM (floodway map) and FIS, Inland Location
Learning Outcomes: 1, 2, 3
Create a FIRMette for 50 Norfolk Street, Torrington, Connecticut where the site is approximately located in the center of the FIRMette. Create a FIRMette for this same location using the Flood Boundary and Floodway Map (FBFM – floodway map). Answer the questions in the attached worksheet using the FIRM, Floodway Map and FIS. Remember there is a separate FBFM (floodway map) and FIRM for these older maps. Floodway maps are under the “Effective Products”, “FIRM Panels” section but do not have a lettered suffix at the end. Floodway maps correspond to the FIRM and must be used together in this mapping exercise along with the FIS. You will need flood profiles 11P and 12P. You may want to print up the flood profiles for this exercise. You will also need a ruler or engineer’s scale for these mapping exercises. You will also need Table 1 (Summary of Discharges) and Table 2 (Floodway Data) in the FIS to complete this mapping exercise.
