you will write an argumentative essay about the Orwell’s 1984. Your paper must be at least 1,100 words, and it must use at least four sources.
You must consult at least four (4) sources and three (3) must be external.
Your primary source, of course, is the novel itself.
The three outside sources must be from credible and reputable authors and publications, and you cannot use study guides that like Spark Notes or sources that merely summarize the novel’s plot and themes.
The afterword written by Erich Fromm at the end of the novel may be used, but you are also encouraged to use sources from the Library’s databases.
Whatever sources you use must make arguments about some aspect(s) of the novel and its influence on how we think about dystopian societies, surveillance states, the way propaganda can be used to shape a society’s thoughts and beliefs, and/or how this novel has influenced or continues to influence our society.
You must use proper in-text documentation (signal phrases and/or parenthetical citations). Plagiarized passages may result in your paper earning a zero.
You must include as the last page a Works Cited page which credits all sources you use in the paper, and all works cited entries must be properly formatted according to MLA style.
Presentation Requirements:
Your essay must be typed in the same, plain black 12-point font (Times, Times New Roman, Calibri, or Arial).
All text must be double-spaced.
The paper’s headings and pagination must conform to MLA format.
The paper must use 1” margins, the title must be properly centered, all new paragraphs must be indented 0.5″ from the left margin, and no extra spacing should be used between indented paragraphs.
Your essay must use an academic tone, avoiding the first and second person voices unless those occur within a direct quotation, as well as contractions and informal/slang word choices or expression
