Let’s Mark Our Google Map!
For the fun group activity on this page, mark a location on our class Google Map that corresponds to a place where you’re “from.”
Where you’re from does not need to be the place where you were born, but it could be. Think about the place you feel most connected to. If you’re choosing a popular spot, like San Diego, try to pin a specific spot with meaning for you (but not a home address, for example, for privacy reasons). It could be a beach or a high school or a neighborhood. I chose the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, New York, near where I grew up and where the chicken wing was invented.
Making Your Mark on the Map
Assignment Instructions
Note that I need to mark this “complete” manually. If you see your pin on the map, I’ll see it too. 🙂
Drop a marker on a place that holds special meaning for you and is therefore a place where you are “from.” It doesn’t need to be where you were born. Instructions:
Go to this link: https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1sOxxrblOsgcUOaIK9ZLqsspZODY9mwI&usp=sharing
Go to the search bar with the blue magnifying glass.Enter a location in the search bar.
A green dropper icon will appear. Click on that.Type your name into the top box and share why you chose that place below that.
If the green dropper already has a description (like the name of a high school) pick a spot near that and use the grey dropper icon under the search bar to drop a pin. Click on that.Type your name into the top box and share why you chose that place below that.
Reminder: Be sure to title the pin with your name.
Select “Save.”
Try to enter on the map, so you practice using this tool and we can visually see where folks are “from” around the world. But if you have trouble, you can create a discussion post, below, and enter the location and a brief explanation of why you chose that place. :
