Obstetric clinical experiences for the last clinical day with a focus on family centered, atraumatic
care. Examples may include: describe your critical thinking process, problem solving,
communication process, social, cultural, or religious issues encountered, ethical situations,
teaching and learning process, growth and development, personal feelings/emotional
responses, or other interesting obstetric health related issues/aspects of care. Listen to the way the physicians, residents, midwives, and nurses communicate. Watch the Fetal Monitoring board use the NICHD handout to help read the tracings. Please include 1 nursing diagnosis and intervention in relation to your labor patient. Try to think outside the box on what you are helping with, what that mom/baby is dealing with, or any other ideas you can think of. I am a nurse student and today I observed a 22 year old female , 39 gestation week in labor.Keep in mind that I only observed.I didn’t pass meds.Patient receive some nausea medications. I only observed when the nurse took a foley ballon out and when the doctor came and broke her water. Also I learn some things regarding fetal and mom monitoring ( baby heart rate, mom heart rate, uterine tone.)Patient had her husband in the room. I didn’t offer any support or speak to family, except introducing myself and asking permission to observe.
As a nursing diagnosis you can put Risk Of Infection due to foley balloon and water braking.One of the intervention for this diagnosis is Practice meticulous hand hygiene and teach patients about the importance of handwashing.
