The semester project for the eCommerce course (MRKG 2312) involves the development of a business proposal for an eCommerce business of your choice and creation of a website for that business. The project is designed to give students an opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of internet businesses. The project counts as your final exam grade and accounts for 20% of your final course grade.
Deliverables (both are required to complete the project)
1) Your eCommerce business proposal (3 pages MAXIMUM)
2) Website – you will create a website for your business in the free web hosting service, WIX.

Project Instructions
The eCommerce semester project requires students to create a proposal for your own eCommerce business which is appropriate for an Internet based online business (see the chart of suggestions near the end)
The business proposal and link to your completed website must be uploaded to CANVAS. Your grade will be based on the quality of the proposal based on the guidelines. Both the business proposal and website must be well organized, logical, accurate and specific.
HOW TO CREATE THE BUSINESS PROPOSAL
Your business proposal MUST include following guidelines:
THE COMPANY – Your company’s name (i.e., Dyson Business Services, Houston Metro Consultants or Wanda’s Wedding Planning)
INTERNET ADDRESS – Your Company Internet address by the free web hosting service WIX (www.wix.comLinks to an external site.)
THE BUSINESS – Provide a thorough description of the business and what it does.
PRODUCT – What will you sell? (good, service or idea)
BUSINESS TYPE – B2B, B2C or C2C (see page 8 of the textbook)
BUSINESS LOCATION – In which city/state is your business located?
REVENUE SOURCE (PRICE) – The major source of revenue must be clearly presented. (This section describes how you plan to make your money. If your website sells goods, services or ideas, the revenue stream or how you plan to make money must be obvious and straight forward.)
DISTRIBUTION – How will you distribute the product, service or idea (how can customers obtain it)? PROMOTION – How will you promote the business?
COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE – What will be your competitive advantage? (Cost leadership, differentiation, focus, or something else)
INDUSTRY ANALYSIS – Develop an industry analysis based on Porter’s 5 Competitive Forces Model to include (pgs. 33-37 of the textbook. See more detail at the end of the instructions):
Competition in the industry
Potential of new entrants into the industry
Power of suppliers
Power of customers
Threat of substitute products
COMPETITION – Try to find and analyze two (2) existing competitors
MISSION STATEMENT – State the company’s mission (answer the question ‘what business are you in’?)
HOW TO BUILD THE WEBSITE
Please make sure to use ONLY FREE features. YOU WILL BE ABLE TO BUILD AND PUBLISH YOUR ECOMMERCE WEBSITE USING ONLY FREE FEATURES! The following each essential web page (individually, not on same page) MUST be include in your eCommerce website:
Company home page
Introduction of Company’s Management and Employee page
Product or service information page
Product or service order form page
FAQ (frequently asked question) page using the FAQ template
Contact page (e.g., company address, email, phone number….)
Product returns policy or service quality guarantee policy page
Customer feedback page
Other relevant pages for you web site as you deem necessary (e.g., security policy, order tracking page by a delivery company such as FedEx or UPS…)
How To Get Started
You do not need to know how to code or be a web designer to establish an online presence. You can easily create a business website by using the online website builder WIX. WIX is an all-inclusive package: the design, site design tool, hosting, domain name, and technical support are usually included in the package.
Cost
For purposes of the eCommerce Semester Project, you will use the FREE WIX account and will be given the Free Wix domain in the form of: username.wixsite.com/siteaddress
Completion & Submission
After you create your website you should include the link: username.wixsite.com/siteaddress in the business proposal so I will be able to view it and grade it. The site address is what your newly created webpage is in WIX.
