Write a paper responding to the following prompt: 1. Discuss one theory about the origins of extremism/terrorism. There are many different theories ranging from the individual to the society level, religious to secular, and everything in between. Note that this is not your theory but a previously established and researched academic theory that already exists. Use real life examples to discuss both the strengths and weaknesses of this theory. a. Introducing and explaining the theory should take up no more than one page of your paper. b. This is a global-focused course therefore your paper should be as well. Your examples should not include the US. c. The paper must be a balanced one. Do not solely support or discredit the theory. d. Your evaluation of the theory must be your own. Do not simply parrot existing critiques. Your evaluation needs to be well researched and supported but should consist of your own ideas. Note: Religion, in any form, is not a theory of extremism. Do not write a paper about religion causing extremism. Extremism can exist in religion but it is caused by something else layered on top of it. It’s the “something else” that you are writing about. These are theories, not specific actions or historical events. Do not include works in your works cited that are not present in the paper. You must APA format for your citations and works cited page. MANY programs will format your citations for you – and we are always happy to introduce you to a few. Your paper must be 1.5 spaced, 11 Times New Roman font, with 1” margins. You must have a title page and a works cited page. These pages do not count as written content. Spacing between paragraphs should be set at zero. All information presented in the paper must be presented clearly and backed up by cited research.
